11 - appropriate lifesaving equipment present
Observed life buoy rope broken during time of inspection.
Advisement: Ensure all required lifesaving equipment is maintained in good repair and readily accessible at all times. Replace or repair the broken life buoy rope to ensure proper emergency response and swimmer safety.
13-202(d) Each pool shall be provided with a Shepherd’s hook attached to a non-telescoping pole with a minimum length of 14’ and made with a blunt end. Each pool shall be provided with a Coast Guard approved lifesaving ring having an outside diameter of 15”-24”, firmly attached to a ¼”-3/8” diameter throwing rope that is as long as 1½ times the max width of the pool or 50’ (whichever is longer.) Additional sets of lifesaving equipment are required for pools longer than 50’ and shall be provided for each 50’ or pool length or major fraction thereof. Lifesaving equipment shall be mounted in a conspicuous place and be readily available for use and in good condition.
19 - adequate turnover rate
Observed flow meter reading at 90 GPM for an 85,500-gallon pool, resulting in an approximate turnover rate of 15.8 hours, which is inadequate for proper circulation and filtration requirements.
13-190(a): The equipment shall be operated continuously on a twenty-four (24) hour basis to obtain the minimum required number of four (4) turnovers per day, or one turnover every six (6) hours (pools); every 30 mins. for spas.
Ensure the pool circulation and filtration system is operating at a sufficient flow rate to meet the required turnover rate for the pool volume. Pool turnover rates must comply with applicable public pool regulations to maintain proper water quality and sanitation. It is recommended that a qualified pool operator or service company evaluate the circulation system and make necessary corrections.
28 - flow meter: appropriate range and location
Observed flow meter reading does not meet the appropriate operating range required to achieve the required 4-hour turnover rate. An 85,500-gallon pool requires approximately 356 GPM to meet a 4-hour turnover; however, the current flow rate is below this requirement.
Flow meter: appropriate range and location 13-190(a)(7) An adequately sized flow meter shall be installed on the return line to accurately indicate the circulation rate in gallons per minute (GPM); shall be conspicuously located
Advisement: Have the circulation system evaluated and adjusted by a qualified pool professional to ensure the pool achieves the required turnover rate and maintains proper water quality and sanitation.
15 - depth and no diving markers, step marking; installed and contrasting
Permanent, slip-resistant, easily-readable depth markers at least 4 inches (4”) high; black letters and numbers on a white background indicated in feet and inches when applicable (metric allowed only if accompanied by feet and inches); Markers on vertical pool wall at or above waterline and on the deck within 18 inches (18”) of the pool wall positioned to read while standing on the deck facing the pool water; Located at minimum and maximum water depths and all points of slope change; Installed at intermediate increments of water depths not to exceed two feet (2’) and shall not be spaced to exceed 25 feet (25’); Depth markers shall be arranged uniformly on both sides and both ends of the pool. On irregularly-shaped pools depth markers shall designate depths at all major deviations in shape.
Observed depth markers labeled “1/2” instead of “6 inches” in the pool area.
Ensure all depth markers are clearly marked in feet and/or inches as required, accurate, legible, and properly displayed. Depth markers must indicate the correct water depth, including “6 inches” where applicable, to prevent confusion and maintain bather safety.
29 - toilets & lavatories: clean, maintained, and stocked
Observed no baby changing stations in the men’s or women’s restroom during time of inspection.
13-201(k) At all times, an adequate supply of liquid soap, toilet paper and paper towels shall be provided and stored in appropriate dispensers conveniently accessible to users. A minimum of 1 diaper changing station for babies shall be provided in each men’s and women’s section of the bathhouse. (Bar soap shall not be provided to bathers)
It is recommended that appropriate baby changing stations be provided and maintained in restroom facilities for patron convenience and sanitation purposes. Ensure any installed changing stations are clean, operable, and properly secured.
